Sweet potatoes with brown sugar is a classic Thanksgiving and Christmas side dish. This is my grandmother's recipe. It's very simple, yet each time I make it, people rave about it. Simple and quite delicious!

  1. 1 Gather all ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. 2 Place a steamer basket in a large pot and bring 2 inches of water to a boil. Place whole sweet potatoes in the steamer basket and cover. Cook until easily pierced with a fork, about 30 minutes. Drain and cool.
  3. 3 Peel and slice sweet potatoes into rounds; place in a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  4. 4 Melt brown sugar, butter, water, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until bubbly and sugar dissolves; pour over potatoes.
  5. 5 Bake in the preheated oven until caramelized, about 1 hour, basting occasionally with the brown sugar sauce.
