  1. 1 Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
  2. 2 Make the cake: Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl. Make a well in the center and pour in oil, orange juice, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until well combined, then stir in apple, walnuts, and coconut. Pour into the prepared pan.
  3. 3 Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean, 75 to 90 minutes. Remove from the oven and poke holes all over cake with a chopstick.
  4. 4 Immediately make the glaze: Bring sugar, buttermilk, butter, and baking soda to a rolling boil.
  5. 5 Pour hot glaze over cake and let stand for 1 hour. Carefully turn cake out onto a serving plate.
