  1. 1 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. 2 Add blueberries to the bottom of a casserole dish; sprinkle 1 cup sugar over top.
  3. 3 Cream remaining 1/2 cup sugar, egg, and shortening together in a large bowl. Add flour, milk, baking powder, and salt; beat until evenly combined. Drop by spoonfuls over blueberries.
  4. 4 Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 minutes.
