Huckleberry Buckle

This huckleberry dessert is a family recipe from my husband's mom and grandma. I like it better than traditional cobbler. This works well with blueberries and blackberries also.

  1. 1 Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C.) Grease the bottom of a 9-inch square pan.
  2. 2 Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup butter in a large bowl; beat with an electric mixer until creamy.
  3. 3 Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl. Stir flour mixture into butter mixture. Stir in milk; mixture will be thick and lumpy. Spread batter into the prepared pan.
  4. 4 Combine berries, remaining 3/4 cup sugar, and boiling water in a large bowl; pour over batter in the pan. Dot butter pieces over top.
  5. 5 Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes.
