  1. 1 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Spray a 9x13-inch pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. 2 Whisk together cake mix, sweet potatoes, eggs, milk, and oil in a bowl. Stir in 3/4 cup nuts; spread evenly into the prepared pan.
  3. 3 Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes. Remove to cool on a wire rack.
  4. 4 Beat Neufchâtel cheese, butter, and vanilla together in a bowl with an electric mixer. Add powdered sugar and beat until well combined. Spread frosting evenly over cake and sprinkle with the 1/4 cup chopped nuts.
