This tangy, sweet, succulent, plum-flavored liqueur is great for gifts, to indulge in by itself, or for plumtinis. You can use tangerine peel instead of orange peel. Save and eat the plums!
Ingredients
- 16 cups black or red plums , pitted and cut into eighths
- 3.25 cups white sugar , divided
- 3 cups 100 proof vodka
- 1.5 tablespoons vanilla extract , divided
- 1 orange peel in pieces , divided
Instructions
-
1
Layer 8 cups plums into the bottom of a very large jar with a lid, pressing plums down as tightly as possible. Sprinkle 1/2 of the sugar over plums, then pour 1 1/2 cups vodka over sugar. Sprinkle with 3/4 tablespoon vanilla, then place about 1/2 of the orange peel pieces into the jar. Layer remaining 8 cups plums into the jar, pressing them down, and top them with remaining sugar, 1 1/2 cups vodka, 3/4 tablespoon vanilla, and orange peel pieces. Screw on the jar lid.

Using an unscented candle, drip a coating of wax around the jar lid to prevent leaking. Cover the jar with a dark-colored towel. Place the jar on its side in a dark, cool place, and turn the jar every day for 21 days, replacing the towel to keep out light.

After 21 days, strain out liqueur with a fine strainer lined with cheesecloth. Bottle liqueur in attractive bottles with tight-fitting caps.

Camp Breakfast
This camp breakfast idea is a good way to start a cold day in the morning, camping or otherwise. My mother used to make this warm, hearty recipe when we were camping. Serve in a bowl with toast and coffee for a satisfying breakfast.
Sydney's Cabbage Stir-Fry (Daniel Fast Remix)
My wife and I were doing a Daniel Fast and we were looking for meal options that fit within the Fast parameters. I remember my mother making this dish using ground beef or turkey, but we used veggie burgers. It turned out pretty good if I say so myself. I choose to serve this dish over brown rice to make the meal more filling. You can also use white rice or couscous. The choice is yours. Happy cooking.
