Blood Orange Marmalade
Growing up, I was not a fan of marmalade since it was kind of firm and dense, had a bitter taste, and I could never figure out why it was full of chopped-up pieces of what we used to throw away when we peeled an orange. But then one day, I was served a marmalade that changed my life--or at least what I thought about marmalade. I've been a huge fan of that style ever since, and it's exactly the kind I'm showing you in this recipe!
Nectarine Jam
You don't see recipes for nectarine jam very often, which is a shame because ripe, juicy nectarines make a great jam.
Dried Apricot Jam
Yes you can use dried apricots to make jam! This has beautiful color and flavor. I have dried California Blenheim apricots from Apricot King shipped to me in Washington and they are wonderful.
Blackberry Jam
We make this delicious blackberry jam recipe every summer after we've picked a ton of fresh blackberries.
Wine Jelly
This jelly is a lovely accompaniment to crackers and cream cheese. You can use any kind of wine, red or white.
Dandelion Jelly
Got a yard full of those pesky little yellow flowers? Send your little dandelion picker out to the yard and make some jelly together. This jelly is amazingly sweet and flavorful. The flavor would best be described as tasting like fresh honey.
Real Fig Preserves
Fig preserves are naturally sweet and very flavorful; however, the taste should not be bland. These are soaked in a spiced golden syrup that adds incredible flavor.
Prickly Pear Jelly
This prickly pear jelly is my grandmother's recipe. It is good on anything grape jelly is good on! Handle prickly pears carefully, wearing gloves. Store jelly in a cool, dark area.
Easy Onion Jam
This is an easy onion jam that is incredibly versatile. It enhances anything from rice or barley dishes to spreading on a piece of bread. Great accompaniment to chicken as well. You can substitute sherry vinegar for the balsamic vinegar.
Mexican Pickled Jalapenos
These taqueria-style pickled jalapenos are a great way to preserve jalapenos from your garden. This recipe is suitable for canning but make sure that the vinegar you use has 5% acidity. The pickled jalapenos go great with any Mexican dish.
Marinated Carrots
This recipe has been handed down through the generations. It is delicious hot or cold and will make a carrot lover out of anyone. I use either pre-cut carrot coins or baby carrots from the supermarket. Yummy!
Watermelon Pickles
Watermelon pickles, made with the white part of the watermelon rind, are pickled in a sweet and tangy brine, flavored with cinnamon sticks, allspice, cloves, and maraschino cherries. A refreshing old-fashioned snack or condiment!
