Bazlama - Turkish Flat Bread
Bazlama is a simple and delicious village bread that I learned to prepare after moving to Turkey. Normally it is cooked in an outdoor oven but it works just as well on the stove top. It's best served warm.
Garlic Naan
This homemade garlic naan recipe is cooked in a hot cast iron skillet rather than a tandoor oven, like restaurant naan. When cooked at the proper temperature, naan develops blistered bubbles with a lovely golden-black char. Reward yourself for a job well done by sopping the bread in copious amounts of curry.
Lebanese Mountain Bread
This Lebanese mountain flatbread brings me back to my early childhood when the Syrian lady across the street from my grandmother made it and always gave us some. It's my first food memory. The bread has a unique texture, gorgeous appearance, and fun-to-make technique.
South African Traditional Vetkoek (Fried Bread)
Vetkoek is a traditional South African crispy fried bread sometimes called fat cake. You can make them any size you wish; they're a great party snack when made small. They can be filled with meat, tuna and mayo, syrup, curried minced meat, cheese, or basically anything you feel like using. They're fast, easy, and very tasty.
Norwegian Potato Lefsa
Lefsa is a traditional Norwegian flatbread made with mashed potatoes, cream, flour, and sugar. Lefsa are usually reserved for holiday meals when they are served warm with butter and sprinkled with cinnamon-sugar for a sweet treat. They are also delicious rolled up with a juicy pickled herring.
Naan
This homemade naan recipe makes soft, chewy naan with a buttery taste. It is the best I have tasted outside of an Indian restaurant. Simply delicious eaten warm brushed with melted butter or served with your favorite curry.
Focaccia Bread
Focaccia is easier to make at home than you think with this easy recipe that has lots of herbs and lots of flavor! My family loves this bread when I bake it with shredded cheese on top.
Wiener Dog Challah
This style of Challah bread comes out short and wide like a Daschound dog; hence the name. It's quite delicious!
Golden Egg Loaves (or Braids)
This is a rich and soft loaf suitable for sandwiches or slicing for use in a bread pudding, overnight egg bake, or French toast. It is equally good fresh out of the oven with butter and jam.
Italian Christmas Bread with Eggnog Glaze
My husband fondly recalls the Anise Bread that his Italian grandmother used to make during the holidays. She evidently never had a recipe (and never used a bread machine!) so this is what I came up with for a quick, special Christmas bread. This rich bread has a wonderful aroma while baking.
Portuguese Sweet Bread III
This is a very old recipe for Portuguese sweet bread. The dough for this egg bread is prepared the night before, left to rise overnight, and then baked the following morning in round cake pans.
Bread Machine Challah for Shabbat and Festivals
A perfect recipe for arthritic hands that can't knead dough easily anymore! Recipe is written for a bread machine that makes 1.5 pound (700 gram) loaves. NOTE: Do NOT bake this dough in the machine. Use only the dough/pasta setting. There is too much fully-risen dough for the machine to accommodate.
