An old-fashioned pound cake that goes into a cold oven before baking.

- 3 cups white sugar
- 1 cup margarine
- 0.5 cups shortening
- 3 large eggs
- 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
Instructions
-
1
Do not preheat the oven. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
-
2
Cream together sugar, margarine, and shortening in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla. Add flour alternately with milk, beating briefly after each addition. Pour batter into the prepared pan.

Place in the cold oven, then set the temperature to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean, about 1 1/2 hours. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Baked Buffalo Wings
These baked Buffalo wings are super crispy without being fried. You can toss them in more hot sauce if you like them spicier! They take only 10 minutes to prep, but it's best if the wings are refrigerated for about an hour before baking so the coating is firm.
Poor Man's Cake
This Poor Man's Cake recipe is from the 1930s. My grandmother gave it to my mother and she gave it to me. Now I am a grandmother and passed it down to my kids. It's really good. You don't have to dirty your mixer for this one, just a big bowl.
