My boyfriend and I made two dozen jars of these oatmeal cookie mixes as Christmas gifts this year, and they were a big hit.
Ingredients
- 0.75 cups white sugar
- 0.75 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
- 0.5 teaspoons salt
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped walnuts , Optional

Using a 1-quart or 1-liter jar, layer ingredients in the following order, packing them down after each addition: white sugar, brown sugar, oats, flour, baking powder, salt, chocolate chips, and walnuts.

Screw on the lid and cover with an 8-inch circle of fabric. Secure the fabric over the lid using a rubber band, then cover the rubber band by tying a nice piece of ribbon or raffia around the lid. Attach a tag to the ribbon with the following instructions:
