Fried cabbage with bacon is a family favorite and this recipe is put into every cookbook for my kids when they move out and get married. It is a beautiful dish with many colors and is cooked low and slow for a rich flavor.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon , chopped
  • 1 large onion , diced
  • 2 cloves garlic , minced
  • 1 large head cabbage , cored and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon salt , or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoons onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 0.13 teaspoons paprika

Instructions

  1. 1

    Gather all ingredients.

  2. 2

Place bacon in a large stockpot and cook over medium-high heat until crispy, about 10 minutes.

  3. 3

Add onion and garlic; cook and stir until onion caramelizes, about 10 minutes.

  4. 4

Immediately stir in cabbage and continue to cook and stir another 10 minutes.

  5. 5

Season with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes more.

    Enjoy!
