This is my Grandma's recipe for sweet and sour cabbage and bell pepper slaw that couldn't be simpler to make! My family loves it as a side dish for grilled burgers and hot dogs, but it works equally well in winter with roast pork or beef.
Ingredients
- 1 medium head green cabbage , shredded
- 2 greens bell peppers , diced
- salt to taste
- 1.5 cups white sugar
- 1 cup vinegar
- 2 tablespoons celery seeds
Instructions
-
1
Toss cabbage and bell pepper together in a large bowl; season liberally with salt. Stir; allow to sit 45 minutes. Drain; return to the bowl.
-
2
Bring sugar and vinegar to a boil in a saucepan; immediately remove from heat. Stir into cabbage mixture; stir in celery seeds. Chill completely before serving.

Rice and Quinoa Breakfast Pudding
A warm breakfast pudding with more texture than regular oatmeal. It tastes great the same day you make it, and heats up well for those rushed work mornings. Top with blackberries, blueberries, dried cranberries, raisins, toasted coconut, or nuts.
Jamaican Fried Snapper
This fried snapper dish is a traditional Jamaican fish recipe called "escovitch." My grandmother made this the night before church so that we could serve it at a large communal meal after the service.
Smoked Turkey
This is an easy to make recipe. I've tried numerous others using colas, fancy pans, etc., but none come out near as good as this. Keeping it simple is the best way. Be sure to use a high-quality charcoal, so that it will burn for a long time. Turkey will be moist tender and smoky!
