My mom's killed lettuce recipe is very simple and basic. Growing up in the North Carolina mountains, everyone knew what killed lettuce was and how to fix it. In the South, it is usually served with pinto beans and cornbread.
Ingredients
- 4 slices bacon
- 4 greens onions , chopped
- 1 head leaf lettuce - rinsed , dried, and torn into bite-sized pieces
Instructions
-
1
Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned and crisp, about 10 minutes. Drain on paper towels and crumble; set aside.
-
2
Add green onions to bacon grease; cook and stir until onions reach desired tenderness, about 1 minute. Pour onions and bacon grease over lettuce; toss lightly. Top with crumbled bacon and serve.
