Hey y'all, make the dough for this king cake in your bread machine and laissez le bon temps rouler! I came up with this non-traditional way to make a very traditional cake just in time for Mardi Gras.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sour cream
- 0.25 cups warm water , 100 to 110 degrees F/40 to 45 degrees C
- 2 tablespoons softened butter
- 1 large egg , slightly beaten
- 3.5 cups all-purpose flour , or as needed
- 3.5 tablespoons white sugar
- 0.5 teaspoons salt
- 2.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
Instructions
-
1
Make the dough: Place sour cream, warm water, softened butter, egg, flour, sugar, salt, and yeast into a bread machine in the order listed, or follow the order recommended by the manufacturer if different. Run Dough cycle. Remove dough from the machine after the cycle is done, about 90 minutes.
-
2
Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface; roll out to a 10x28-inch rectangle.
-
3
Make the filling: Mix sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon together in a bowl. Spread mixture over dough, then sprinkle pecans over top. Starting at a long edge, roll dough over filling into a log. Transfer to a greased baking sheet with the seam facing down.
-
4
Moisten dough at each end of the log; pull ends together to form a ring and pinch to seal. Cover with a cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 30 minutes.
-
5
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
-
6
Bake cake in the preheated oven until golden brown on top, about 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
-
7
While the cake is cooling, make the glaze: Combine confectioners' sugar, melted butter, and vanilla in a bowl. Stir in just enough milk to make a smooth but not watery glaze.
-
8
Spoon glaze onto warm cake, allowing it to dribble down the sides. Immediately sprinkle alternating bands of purple, green, and yellow colored sugar over glaze. Allow cake to cool completely before serving.

Pork Tenderloin Diablo
This pork tenderloin diablo is a great pork recipe. Mustard is a classic with pork, but when you add the extra zing of horseradish and cayenne, and then smooth it out with a little cream and butter, well, it's devilishly delicious.
Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream
This is the best vanilla ice cream you'll ever eat. This homemade ice cream recipe uses pudding and sweetened condensed milk which makes it so much creamier than plain vanilla ice cream. If you want to add fruit, put the sugar in the chopped fresh fruit ahead of time to sweeten it, and then add to the mixture! Please note: this recipe contains raw eggs. We recommend that pregnant women, young children, the elderly and the infirm do not consume raw eggs. Important: be sure to use only fresh eggs for this recipe.
Salami, Cream Cheese, and Pepperoncini Roll-Ups
Salami, cream cheese, and pepperoncini roll-ups are a great snack and appetizer to bring to any party. I have so many people requesting them, I make these every time guests come over!
