Fried cabbage is a favorite at Mammaw's house! Bacon is fried until crispy, then sautéed with cabbage and onion in this simple, quick vegetable side dish. It's terrific with cornbread.
Ingredients
- 0.33 cups vegetable oil
- 3 slices bacon , cut into thirds
- 1 teaspoon salt , or to taste
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper , or to taste
- 1 head cabbage , cored and sliced
- 1 white onion , chopped
- 1 pinch white sugar

Gather all ingredients.

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat; add sliced bacon and season with salt and pepper. Cook until bacon is crisp, 5 to 7 minutes.

Add cabbage, onion, and sugar; cook and stir continuously until cabbage and onion are tender, about 5 to 10 minutes.
