Grandma's Hong Shau Rou (Red Braised Pork)
I have been reading about this traditional Chinese dish on the Internet and found there are many different versions of it. Some are spicy, incorporating chile and ginger. Others have the spices of star anise, cinnamon, and lots of garlic added too. The recipe my grandma passed on to us here is the garlicky one. Garnish with some chopped spring onions or cilantro and serve with steamed white rice or buns. I like to serve a side dish of pickled cucumber slices with the pork and this tanginess brings another dimension to the dish. Chi Fan (time to eat)!
Cantonese Style Lobster
This recipe for Cantonese-style lobster is so, so good! My grandma, who is Chinese, makes this every time I go to see her, ever since I was little. I love this stuff!
Slow-Cooked Red Braised Pork Belly
This is one of the most common Chinese household dishes. You almost never find this dish in restaurants because it takes a long time to cook and because it is gloriously fatty. Serve with steamed rice and your choice of vegetable.
Lazy Pork Dumplings
While the recipe's filling and dough are relatively straightforward, shaping dumplings usually takes a while. I've developed a much quicker, more casual assembly method for these lazy pork dumplings that works whether you boil, steam, or fry them. Served in a vinegary broth, however, they mimic the experience of soup dumplings, typically served with vinegar to balance that gush of rich, meaty juices you get when you bite in.
Chinese Steamed Buns with Barbecued Pork Filling
My sister-in law is Chinese and this is one of her most delicious Dim Sum recipes. It's Chinese name is Char Siu Bao, takes a little effort but is extremely worth it. Barbequed pork can be found in Asian markets, or often in the supermarket deli section.
Healthy Instant Potยฎ Orange Chicken
There's no need to order out when you can make sweet and savory orange chicken at home using your Instant Potยฎ. Serve with steamed rice and a side of broccoli, if desired.
Chinese Chicken and Ginger Steamed Soup Dumplings
These delicate little Chinese steamed buns are from the Shanghai region. Filled with minced chicken or pork, ginger, and spring onion. Feel free to experiment by including your favorite ingredients. Serve with shredded ginger in dark vinegar.
Deb's General Tso's Chicken
This General Tso's chicken uses cornstarch batter for a crisp, golden brown coating. Frying the chicken twice makes it extra crispy. A spicy, sweet soy sauce mixture with ginger and garlic adds incredible flavor. Don't scrimp or replace the ingredients โ you might be disappointed. You can make the sauce and complete the first chicken fry up to 3 days ahead, then complete the second fry before serving. Serve with rice or noodles tossed with steamed vegetables, such as broccoli, zucchini, squash, and green onions.
Mongolian Beef II
Savory strips of sirloin roast are soaked in a spicy marinade and sauteed with green onions. Serve over steamed rice or fried rice noodles.
Green Beans and Chicken
Crisp, fresh green beans and tender chicken make for a flavorful and easy weekday meal. You can even prep everything ahead of time so it's ready to go at dinner time. Serve with steamed white rice for a complete meal. Top with sesame seeds or green onion if desired.
Ground Turkey and Vegetable Stir Fry
This ground turkey and vegetable stir fry is colorful, saucy, and tasty. Once you start cooking, it goes very quickly, so be sure to have everything ready to go. It's especially good over steamed rice or cauliflower rice.
Shrimp and Pepper Stir-Fry
Shrimp and peppers take center stage in this simple but colorful stir-fry with lots of veggies. Serve over steamed rice or rice noodles.
