Slow-Cooked Green Beans
Why take something that normally takes 5 minutes to cook and cook it for 2 hours? Because it produces one of the most delicious things you'll ever taste. There's going to be a lot of juice, and that's what you dip your corn bread into.
Loaded Twice-Baked Sweet Potatoes
These twice-baked sweet potatoes loaded with bacon, jalapeño, green onions, and sharp Cheddar can be prepped ahead of time and then baked when you're ready to serve. A delicious and beautiful way to serve sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving.
Braised Black Lentils
This black lentil recipe is one of my favorite side dishes. Black lentils are also known as beluga lentils since they resemble beluga caviar, the most prized of all caviar varieties.
Baked "Fried" Rice
This easy oven method for baked "fried" rice produces something very similar to classic fried rice, but you don't need leftover rice to make it. Just like rice pilaf, the grains of rice get coated in fat before absorbing the cooking liquid, ensuring plump, tender, separate grains with no sticky clumps. If using a different kind of rice or pan size, just adjust the cooking time. Garnish with green onions and serve with a runny poached egg on top if desired.
Apple Sausage Gravy Dumplings
These delicious apple sausage gravy dumplings are Chef John's very successful riff on sausage gravy and biscuits. They have the perfect balance of savory and fruity, and the dumplings have a gorgeous, delicate texture.
Zucchini Roll Lasagna on Turkey Bolognese
This incredible zucchini roll lasagna doesn't contain any pasta. Instead, thin zucchini strips are rolled around a 3-cheese filling and baked over a savory turkey Bolognese. The presentation is truly next level.
Sweet Potato and Bacon Pizza
Chef John's sweet potato and bacon pizza is perfectly balanced, with sharp lemon, savory bacon, spicy jalapeno, and a kiss of rosemary to contrast with rich sweet potato.
Chef John's Shrimp and Grits
Shrimp and grits are very simple to make for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and this recipe is a snap. You can make the grits a bit ahead since they stay hot for a long time. Have everything ready before you start cooking the shrimp as they only take a few minutes to sauté.
The Farmer's Frittata (Italian-Style Omelet)
Loaded with fresh vegetables and a touch of bacon, this farmer's frittata is my favorite type of frittata. It's a perfect way to use your gorgeous, fresh garden vegetables. Curing the squash with kosher salt pulls out the bitterness and makes the squash taste sweeter. It's got great texture, taste, and visual appeal and can be served hot, warm, at room temperature or cold for any meal of the day.
"Tadpole in the Hole" - Breakfast Sausage and Kale Dutch Baby
This miniature version of toad in a the hole features small adorable breakfast sausages. I also added kale to the 'breakfast pool' our little tadpoles will be swimming in which will make this more nutritious (and delicious).
Million Dollar Dip
Formerly known as 'Neiman Marcus dip,' this million dollar dip tastes just like it sounds. I've had more than a few cheesy dips in my day, but this is by far the richest and most delicious one yet! Served with crackers and garnished with green onions and bacon, this dip is sure to be a huge hit at your next party.
Spicy Salami Spread (Nduja)
I'm not saying this spicy salami spread is as good as traditional nduja, but it does take about 3 months' less time to make while still delivering most of the characteristics that make the Calabrian delicacy so amazing. And just in case you're not familiar with nduja, a few of those characteristics are a rich, spicy, super-savory flavor, and soft, luxurious texture. Present as a self-serve spread next to toasted bread or top with herbs for a crostini appetizer.
