This apple butter recipe cooks apples, sugar, and spices real slow but it's well worth the wait. Depending on the sweetness of the apples used, the amount of sugar may be adjusted to taste.
Ingredients
- 5.5 pounds apples - peeled , cored and finely chopped
- 4 cups white sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 0.25 teaspoons ground cloves
- 0.25 teaspoons salt
Instructions
-
1
Place apples in a slow cooker. Mix sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a medium bowl; pour over apples and mix well.
-
2
Cover and cook on High for 1 hour.
-
3
Reduce heat to Low and cook, stirring occasionally, until mixture is thickened and dark brown, 9 to 11 hours.
-
4
Uncover and continue cooking on Low for 1 hour. Stir with a whisk to increase smoothness if desired.
-
5
Spoon mixture into sterile containers, cover, and refrigerate or freeze.

Pineapple Rocket Salad
This arugula (rocket) salad with pineapple and red onion is perfect for warmer weather. It's my favorite healthy recipe.
Rhubarb Compote
The best rhubarb compote is made with just two ingredients for a lovely springtime dessert. Serve this compote on its own or with whipped cream or ice cream. You can also use it on pancakes, crepes, or toast.
Jalapeño Cranberry Sauce
This jalapeño cranberry sauce is moderately spicy, but not overpowering. Made with a bit of sherry to enrich the flavor, it's lovely alongside your Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey but also makes a lovely condiment for sandwiches or even an interesting topping for vanilla ice cream. Leave some jalapeño seeds in if you like it spicier!
