This creamed onions recipe was my great-grandma's. Always a favorite at Thanksgiving dinner. I think it's worth using fresh pearl onions instead of frozen ones.
Ingredients
- 0.75 cups water
- salt to taste
- 2 cups peeled pearl onions
- 0.25 cups butter
- 1.5 cups cold whole milk
- 0.25 cups quick-mixing flour , such as Wondra
Instructions
-
1
Gather the ingredients.
-
2
Bring water and salt to a boil in a small saucepan; add pearl onions and cook until just tender, 5 to 10 minutes. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup water in the saucepan; return onions to the pan and add butter.
-
3
Mix milk and quick-mixing flour together in a bowl; add to onion mixture. Cook and stir over medium-low heat until thickened, 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in more quick-mixing flour if the mixture is too thin.

This is a typical St. Patrick's Day meal which is simple, with few ingredients and cooked in a slow cooker so it is super easy, yet delicious! Serve in a large soup mug or bowl with Irish soda bread, rye bread, or rolls on the side.
The Best Ricotta Pancakes
These ricotta pancakes are fluffy, a little tangy, and make a very satisfying breakfast! This is my own recipe, which I have been making for years as these are our favorite kind of pancakes. Perfect with some fresh blueberries or strawberries.
