This recipe for homemade meatballs is the one my mother made growing up. I now make them for my family, and my picky husband loves them. Serve with your choice of pasta.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 egg
- 0.5 cups Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
- 0.25 cups grated Parmesan cheese
- 4 teaspoons garlic powder , or to taste
- 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning , or to taste
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1 jar marinara sauce , 28 ounce
Instructions
-
1
Combine beef and egg in a large bowl. Add bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Mix together, but do not overmix, as it will get tough.
-
2
Shape into 1- to 2-inch balls.
-
3
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook meatballs in the hot skillet until browned and no longer pink in the centers, 3 to 5 minutes per side.
-
4
Meanwhile, heat marinara sauce in a pot over medium-low heat. Add cooked meatballs to sauce and let simmer for added flavor, about 15 minutes.

Chef John's Shrimp Cocktail
Cooking shrimp cocktail is easier than it may seem. Before I knew much about food or dining out, I knew that if they brought shrimp cocktails to the table as an appetizer, we were eating at a "fancy" restaurant. I'm sure I enjoyed the shrimp, but what I really loved was dipping the crackers in the spicy, horseradish-spiked cocktail sauce.
