Roast duck is a nice change from traditional turkey at Thanksgiving. I made it one year and served it with all the usual side dishes, and my whole family — who had never eaten duck before — enjoyed it.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 whole duck , 5-pound
- 0.5 cups butter , melted, divided
Instructions
-
1
Gather all ingredients. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
-
2
Combine paprika, salt, and pepper in a small bowl; rub spice mixture onto skin of duck. Place duck in a roasting pan. Roast in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
-
3
Spoon 1/4 cup melted butter over duck; continue roasting for 45 minutes.
-
4
Spoon remaining 1/4 cup melted butter over duck and roast until golden brown and the thickest part of the thigh reaches 165 degrees F (74 degrees C), about 15 minutes more.
