A variation of a traditional Mennonite recipe, these deep-fried pastries are typically served with cold watermelon slices. It's a wonderful combination on hot summer days or at picnics.
Ingredients
- 3 large eggs
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups canola oil for frying
Instructions
-
1
Place eggs in a large mixing bowl, and beat until frothy. Gradually beat in the flour and salt to make a soft dough. Roll out the dough to be fairly thin, about 1/8 inch, and cut into 2-inch by 5-inch strips. Cut a slit down the center of each strip, and twist so one end slides through the slit and makes a loop.
-
2
Heat 1 ½ inches of oil in a deep skillet (or use a deep-fat fryer) to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
-
3
Cook dough in small batches in preheated oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Pumpkin Custard Pie II
Candied ginger and cognac make this pumpkin pie unique.
Veggie Nacho Salad
The best nachos ever! Great way to get people to eat their veggies. This recipe calls for a lot of ingredients, but it's worth it. Even better with homemade guac! A meal that is enough for 2. Tastes good with or without the corned beef.
Buffalo Chicken Bites
These Buffalo chicken bites are always in demand at any football get-together. You can make the bites and use any type of sauce you want. Personally, I like to take a quarter cup of barbecue sauce and a quarter cup of hot sauce and mix it together.
