This watermelon fruit bowl features all of your favorite fruits, lightly sweetened, served in a watermelon "bowl."
Ingredients
- 1 large watermelon
- 1 cantaloupe , halved and seeded
- 1 honeydew melon , halved and seeded
- 2 cans mandarin oranges , 15 ounce
- 2 cans pineapple chunks , 20 ounce
- 2 cups halved fresh strawberries
- 2 cups seedless grapes
- 0.5 cups water
- 0.25 cups white sugar
- 2 tablespoons grated lemon zest
Instructions
-
1
With a large, sharp knife, remove the top 1/4 section of the watermelon. With a melon baller, scoop flesh from the inside of watermelon, removing as many seeds as possible. Leave 1/2 inch of flesh inside the shell of watermelon. Scoop cantaloupe and honeydew in the same manner, removing as much flesh as possible and discarding the rinds. Refrigerate watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, oranges, pineapple, strawberries, and grapes separately until ready to assemble.
-
2
Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium-high heat; bring to a boil. Remove from heat and continue stirring until sugar has completely dissolved. Stir in lemon zest. Set syrup aside to cool.
-
3
To serve, place chilled watermelon balls, cantaloupe, honeydew, oranges, pineapple, strawberries, and grapes in a large bowl. Pour syrup over and toss thoroughly. Transfer fruit mixture to watermelon bowl. Set aside any fruit mixture that will not fit. There will be enough fruit to refill the bowl.

Mother's Whipped Lime Dessert
Mother made this often this during WW II when sugar was rationed. You can use any flavor gelatin (I personally like the green lime). It is a light sweet especially good after a heavy meal or during warm weather.
Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Tacos
This versatile slow cooker pulled pork couldn't be easier. Simply place the meat in the slow cooker, add flavorings, cook and shred, and then blend the flavoring ingredients and drippings for an amazing sauce. Great for tacos or quesadillas, or leave in chunks for your main. Add the toppings you like – avocado slices, cilantro, lime juice, chopped onion, shredded cabbage, radishes — you decide!
Pumpkin Pie Muffins
I made this recipe this fall when I was craving something seasonal. After trying other recipes that just lacked that homey pumpkin-pie taste, I decided to make my own. It makes about 24 large muffins or 6 muffins and a loaf. Even though they last well in the refrigerator, you may want to halve the recipe for individuals or small families. Add some cream cheese frosting and they'd make great cupcakes.
