Bayou's Mardi Gras Slaw
This is a wonderfully colorful cole slaw perfect for celebrating Mardi Gras or any other time. It is presented in the official colors of Mardi Gras: purple, green, and gold. The sauce is a perfect blend of sweet and tart, with a little cayenne pepper for bite. Do not dress the coleslaw ahead, or it will become soggy.
King Cake Cupcakes
These king cake cupcakes are less yeasty and more cake-like than the cake. They get you the vanilla-nutmeg-lemon-buttermilk flavor and fun colors of a traditional king cake — without waiting around for a yeasted dough to rise.
Pig Picking Cake III
This is my daughters favorite. It is an easy mandarin orange cake with pineapple, nuts, pudding and whipped topping. Whip one up and it's pig-out time!
Chiacchiere with Sanguinaccio
'Chiacchiere' is a dessert that is fried and sprinkled with confectioners' sugar and served with sanguinaccio. It is a traditional Italian dessert in the region of Campagnia, served during 'carnevale' or as we say Mardi Gras. It is served with 'sanguinaccio' a chocolate sauce used for dipping the 'chiacchiere'. Years ago the sanguinaccio was made with chocolate and pig's blood, but now the use of the blood has been banned due to health concerns, but in small villages across Italy it is still used.
Pralines II
Delicious candy and pretty easy to make.
Skinny Foster
A lighter version of the traditional dessert. Also yummy served over pancakes instead of syrup.
Pecan Cajun Cake
Great for a Mardi Gras-themed dinner party! I was a member of the Barksdale AFB Officers' Wive's gourmet club. This cake was made for one of our luncheons. Guaranteed Cajun!
Cajun Ponchartrain Sauce
My take on the Ponchartrain sauce served at a popular seafood restaurant chain in my town. Although I prefer snapper, it may be ladled over any grilled, blackened, steamed, or pan fried fish. Very elegant and easy! Great idea for a romantic candlelight dinner for two.
Faworki (Polish Chrusciki)
Traditional Polish crispy pastry twists made for Carnival time. They are deep-fried and sprinkled with confectioners' sugar. Light and delicious!
King Cake with Cream Cheese Filling
This recipe for king cake with cream cheese filling is, hands down, the best I've ever eaten. It's a combination of several recipes, not too sweet and not too bready, with a rich, tender crumb and the traditional lemon and nutmeg flavors of a genuine NOLA king cake. It's great with coffee and best eaten the same day but pretty darn good the day after (if there are leftovers!). Enjoy, y'all!
Cajun Cake
This Cajun dessert was born on the bayou. It has a caramel-pecan sauce that soaks into the cake.
The Best Cream Cheese King Cake
This cream cheese king cake recipe is easy to make for celebrating Mardi Gras. If you're looking for a new king cake recipe, you must try this one. Don't forget to put the baby in!
