Cheese Bourekas
Bourekas are puff pastry pockets filled with cheese. They are great served as an appetizer or for breakfast with salad, olives, cheese, and plain yogurt, the traditional Israeli way. They could also be filled with leftover mashed potatoes or spinach and feta.
Long Johns
These Long Johns are classic breakfast pastries. Flavor your glaze with chocolate or maple spread for different flavors.
Sufganiot
Sufganiot (doughnuts) filled with sweet cheese or preserves. Perfect for Hanukkah. For a change from cheese-filled suphganiot, inject some with teaspoons of jam.
Cheese Fritters
These fried cheese fritters are a perfect addition to your Hanukkah table. Serve them hot with jam on the side.
Pumpkin Sufganiot with Cranberry Jelly
I wanted to combine Thanksgiving flavors for a Hanukkah doughnut. This dough is very forgiving, and will last in the fridge, well-wrapped, for 3 days. That makes it easy to break up the recipe into batches and fry the doughnuts when it's convenient for you. This makes a great holiday breakfast or dessert! Makes about two and a half dozen, depending on your cutters.
Dad's Breakfast Bread
This is my dad's version of scones. It is a dough like cinnamon roll dough and it is fried in hot oil. Very good Sunday treat. Served with honey, jam or sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Malasadas Dois
A raised, deep fried, Portuguese donut. Very popular as fund raisers in Southeastern Massachusetts where I grew up.
Erin's Canadian Fried Dough
This recipe is passed down from my Nana who was famous for her doughnuts. This is one she would make us on a cold winters day after skating all day on the outdoor rink. It is a popular treat when skating on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Canada.
Kneecaps
Kneecap doughnuts are small, sweet fried doughnuts with an indent in the center rather than a hole. They're covered with confectioners' sugar and filled with whipped cream. For a decorative touch, add a few sprinkles or sugars to this recipe.
Yeast Doughnuts
This light and airy yeast doughnut recipe makes a terrific holiday treat. You may dip them in chocolate glaze or add candy sprinkles if you wish.
Apple Matzo Kugel
This matzo kugel with apple and raisins is the best kugel ever! I'm not Jewish but have a lot of Jewish friends, and they love this recipe! Good as a side dish, breakfast, dessert or snack!
The Best Ever Classic Jewish Noodle Kugel
This best ever classic Jewish noodle kugel recipe is Jewish soul food at its best! My mom always made this classic noodle kugel for Shabbat dinner. It's easy to prepare, delicious, and makes the kitchen smell wonderful!
