Traditional Osso Buco
Osso buco is a hearty Italian dish made by braising veal shanks in a rich stock with white wine and tomatoes; garnish with a zesty gremolata made with fresh parsley, lemon zest, and garlic for a memorable meal.
Italian Tomato Pie
Tomato pie has been sold by Iannelli's Bakery in Philadelphia since 1910. Tomato pie remains popular in Philadelphia where it is cut into long strips and called pizza strips, red bread, party pizza, strip pizza, or bakery pizza. It may be sprinkled with Romano cheese or oregano. It is not usually served straight from the oven, but allowed to cool and then consumed at room temperature or reheated. Like Sicilian pizza, tomato pie is baked in a large rectangular pan and served in square slices. It resembles the Italian sfincione.
Italian Crema Ice Cream (Gelato alla Crema)
Answering the question "What would vanilla ice cream taste like without any vanilla?," Italian "crema" ice cream (gelato alla crema) is exceptionally delicious not because of what's in the recipe, but rather what isn't. Ironically, it might be the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had. Without any other flavors in the way, all you taste is the sweet goodness of milk and cream, which I think is a revelation.
Parmesan Risotto
This rich and creamy Parmesan risotto is simple to make for a wonderful Italian appetizer or side dish alongside seafood or steak.
Bruschette al Lardo di Colonnata
Lardo is not for everybody, but if you like it you will love it on warm toasted bread. This bruschetta is true indulgence!
Mexican Affogato
Take your affogato to another level by adding tequila and coffee liqueur to your espresso. I used top of the line Patron Roca® tequila and Kahlua® which produces a smooth, creamy, and rich affogato.
Americano Cocktail
American tourists in Italy popularized this refreshing Campari® and sweet vermouth cocktail. It's a Negroni, basically, minus the gin octane. Nice for afternoon sips at a cafe in Rome. Or even in Topeka.
Affogato
Crafting the perfect affogato is more than meets the eye. In fact, there's more science to the dessert than most would care to acknowledge. Using gelato boosts the incredible flavor, and gives a velvety, silky smoothness ice cream just doesn't have. This is because gelato has a lower fat content, less air, and is served at a different temperature than ice cream. Translation: if you use ice cream you'll end up with something less than perfect as the hot espresso will cause the ice cream to melt faster.
Homemade Italian Cream Soda
This recipe for homemade Italian cream soda is just like what you get at Italian restaurants! You can use any flavored drink syrup, but I personally prefer raspberry.
Tuscan Lemonade Cocktail
A sparkling lemonade cocktail for adults that is super easy to throw together.
Italian Cream Soda
A watermelon and passion fruit flavored Italian cream soda.
Chicken Marsala
Chicken Marsala is an Italian-style recipe for tender pan-fried chicken breasts in a sweet Marsala wine and mushroom sauce. It's super quick and easy to make for a weeknight dinner and sophisticated enough for company.
