Kraut Bierocks
These meat-and-cabbage-mixture filled sweet rolls make a great main dish, and are also great as a snack. They reheat well, so leftovers are also great! Sauerkraut can be used in place of the cabbage for more of a 'kraut flavor'.
Scottish Mince Pie
My mother-in-law made this pie in Scotland. It is not a sweet mince pie, but it's easy to make, and a hearty dinner. I serve boiled parsley potatoes and a nice salad with this pie. My children always ask for this pie when they come home to visit.

Coal Miners Pasties
Coal miners in the Midwest would take one of these pasties for their lunch. They keep warm rather long wrapped in a towel. Some housewives would stuff one end with a savory filling, and the other with a sweet one. That way you could have your dessert with your dinner! For a true coal miner meal experience, be sure to roughly chop the potatoes.
Steak Pie
This steak pie is my version of one made in a Scottish bakery in Pickering, Ontario. My husband says it's better! You could also add two calf kidneys (well washed and de-veined and cut into bite-sized pieces) to make steak and kidney pie!
Reuben Crescent Bake
Corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing baked between crescent rolls. Easy and tastes just like a Reuben sandwich. Kids love this!

Great Grandma Johns' Pasties
This recipe originated in Cornwall England, and was adapted by my Great Grandmother Johns. It was originally made for the coal miners and wrapped in butcher paper. The hard pastry shell would keep the juicy contents fresh until the miners were ready to eat. My Grandma would serve with relishes and Coca Cola. If you want to make these more quickly, you can use refrigerated pie crusts instead of the pastry recipe.
