This Mexican chocolate chili was adapted from an old recipe my mother used for family gatherings. Because you make it in a slow cooker, it is easy to transport to a party. It's flavorful, and I promise everyone will ask for this recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground round beef
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes with garlic , 14.5 ounce
  • 1 can kidney beans , 15 ounce
  • 1 can black beans , 15 ounce
  • 1 can whole kernel corn , 14.5 ounce
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 0.33 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons dried oregano

Instructions

  1. 1

Combine ground round beef and onion in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring, until beef is browned and crumbly, about 5 minutes.

  2. 2

Transfer beef and onion to a slow cooker. Stir in tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, corn, hot water, chocolate chips, chili powder, cumin, salt, and oregano.

  3. 3

Cook on High until chili begins to bubble, about 20 minutes. Reduce heat to Low and cook until thick, about 2 hours.
