Many years ago, a friend gave me this recipe for mincemeat pie filling made with simple ingredients. It's so good that even those who don't care for mincemeat pie will like it.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups chopped apples
  • 1.5 cups diced cooked beef
  • 1.5 cups raisins
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 large orange - peeled , sectioned, and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 0.5 cups sorghum or molasses
  • 0.25 cups sweet pickle juice
  • 0.25 cups pineapple juice or apricot juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt

Instructions

    Gather all ingredients.

    Mix apples, diced beef, raisins, sugar, beef broth, orange sections, sorghum, pickle juice, pineapple juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt together in a large bowl until well combined.
