Growing up in the foothills of North Carolina and enjoying Eastern North Carolina BBQ, we always had barbecue slaw or red BBQ slaw served with our pulled pork. The spicy, crunchy texture of the marinated cabbage takes BBQ to the next level. Serve this recipe with pork or chicken.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups finely shredded cabbage
  • 0.33 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 0.33 cups ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes , or to taste
  • 2 dashes hot pepper sauce , or to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

Place cabbage in a salad bowl. Whisk vinegar, ketchup, sugar, pepper flakes, and hot sauce together until sugar has dissolved; pour over cabbage and toss thoroughly. Refrigerate before serving, at least 1 hour.
