'Something Different' Fruit Salad
A little lime, salt, and honey go a long way in this dish created out of sheer boredom. One night last summer we were grilling fish and corn, yet again. When I asked my boyfriend what he wanted as a second side dish, all he said was, 'something different.' I decided to try a twist on the traditional fruit salad that I grew up eating, and it was a huge hit! The best thing about this recipe is that most fruits are great with the dressing, so you can use your favorites or whatever is in season.
Strawberry-Melon Summer Salad
This strawberry-melon salad recipe is perfect for summer BBQs. The fruit makes it tasty.
Tomato Watermelon Salad
This watermelon tomato salad with feta cheese is the perfect summer salad! It's delicious with grilled meat on a hot day. For the best results, dress the salad right before you eat it and serve it at room temperature.
Animal Style Fries
Everyone knows that despite being freshly cut, the pale and soggy fries are In-N-Out's weakest point, but if you smother them in cheese, sweet caramelized onions, and In-N-Out spread, they're magical. So replacing the sad fries with crispy frozen fries really is an improvement over the originals here. Spread is just a basic sweet and tangy burger sauce with mayo, ketchup, relish, a little sugar, and a little vinegar. The onions are really the stars here - soft, sweet, and jammy. Be sure to serve immediately as soon as the fries are cooked - the residual heat of the fries and the onions is what melts the cheese.
Cajun Potato Wedges
A healthier option than french fries. Great with grilled cheese, hot dogs, or hamburgers. Dip into ketchup or spicy ranch dressing.
Duck Fried Rice
This duck fried rice is how I like to use up leftovers from our favorite takeout meal of Chinese roast duck and barbecued pork. The ingredient amounts can vary depending on what leftovers you have, but fried rice dishes are very forgiving.
Quick Pork Fried Rice
A great recipe for leftover pork chops, roasts, and more. A few bits from the fridge turn into a tasty dinner in less than 45 minutes. If I have a leftover grilled pork or the tail of a roast, I'll freeze it until I have enough for this dish. You can also use chicken or substitute some of the veggies for what you have on hand when cleaning out the fridge. Serve with sweet Thai chili sauce on the side.
Sweet Fire Rib Rub
Also goes very good on some chicken, tri-tip steaks, or pretty much anything BBQ. I do a lot of smoked foods, and it's perfect.
BBQ Spice Rub
This bbq rub is so simple! It's made with the everyday spices you probably have in your cupboard. I rub it on everything from chicken to pork to burgers to steak. I keep it in a zip-top bag in the freezer. It's always ready to go!
Homemade Seasoned Salt
This seasoning salt is delicious sprinkled over meat or vegetables before grilling. The recipe makes enough to store and use later.
Spicy Flat Iron Steak Rub
This is a super flavorful rub with a Southwest taste for flat iron steak. You can use this recipe for grilling, broiling or stove top (fry pan or stove top grill) cooking. The steak is also great served with a few slices of avocado on top. Let the rub sit for up to 2 days, if possible, for the best flavor.
Flat Iron, Grilled
With flat iron steak you have all the tenderness of filet, but you must provide the flavor with marinades or rubs.
