Gin and Tonic
Gin and tonic made in a highball glass with ice, lime juice, and a lime wedge. So refreshing!
Sloe Gin Fizz Cocktail
Sloe gin, a blackthorn plum-flavored spirit, gets a dose of fizzy club soda, sugar, and lemon juice in this tart and refreshing cocktail.
Long Island Iced Tea
This is the classic Long Island Iced Tea, containing just a hint of citrus. It is best made with top shelf liquors. Watch out, it is very strong, but tastes very good, so you may not realize all the alcohol you're consuming.
DIY Finnish Lonkero (a.k.a. Long Drink)
My family recently went on a vacation to Finland. In addition to enjoying the food and scenery, many of us fell in love with the lonkero, or long drink. This is a strictly Finnish drink made by combining cheap gin with citrus. The most common flavor is grapefruit, which is reproduced here. Lonkero is not sold in the US so I decided to try to copy it by referring to web sites from other tourists who tried to copy it and reading the ingredients on the company's web site.
Old Fashioned Cocktail
This old fashioned cocktail recipe has a history. The earliest version of it was simply water, sugar, bitters, and booze. Over time, the water became ice, the booze became whiskey, and the drink became an old fashioned.
The John Collins Cocktail
The John Collins cocktail is similar to a Tom Collins but features bourbon whiskey instead of gin. It still mixes in club soda, simple syrup, and lemon juice to make a refreshing cocktail. Serve with a straw.
Gold Rush
A Gold Rush cocktail is a riff on a whiskey sour using honey syrup instead of simple syrup. The honey syrup is commonly made with a 1:1 ratio of honey to water, but I find that a 2:1 ratio helps to better balance out the lemon juice and bourbon. This makes enough syrup for 4 cocktails. Serve over a large ice sphere.
Sweet Bourbon Sipper
I fell in love with a drink at our local bourbon bar, so I came home to try and make it myself. Combined with lime and cherry flavors, the bourbon flavors stay strong. This recipe calls for dark Morello cherries, but feel free to try it with Amarena cherries or the cherries of your choice.
Maker's Mark Old Fashioned
Straightforward and timeless, this Maker's Mark old-fashioned cocktail never goes out of style. A simple combination of bourbon, bitters, sugar, and a splash of water โ just garnish your masterpiece with an orange slice and a cherry on top and you've got the perfect drink. Serve it on poker night, game day, or enjoy as a perfect after-work drink.
Bourbon Slush
This bourbon slush recipe is a fruity blend of juices, tea, and whiskey frozen into a slush, then topped off with lemon-lime soda. This takes a while, but it's worth it!
Traditional Hot Toddy
This makes an extra-large serving of a traditional hot toddy, perfect when you're sick in the wintertime. It's pretty potent--take this mug and go to bed!
Betsy's Old-Fashioned Manhattan
This is a variation on the classic Manhattan that I developed because I also like the Old Fashioned cocktail. You will need a cocktail shaker.
