Sweet and Sour Borscht Shooters
This is the classic sweet and sour summer beet soup served as a shooter any time of the year. You can add a little vodka to it if you like, but I usually leave it out. The piquant taste is enough for us. Fix a tray of shooters at once so people can just help themselves.
Borscht II
This takes some time, but is well worth the effort. I use a food processor. It is a hearty soup, great on a cold winter night. Serve hot, topped with sour cream.
Vegan Borscht
A vegan version of a traditional Russian/Ukranian soup.
Easter White Borscht
This white borscht recipe was my first attempt at recreating an old Polish dish I remember from my childhood. Everyone does it differently. Garnish with fresh dill sprigs.
Vegetarian Borscht
This is a rustic and hearty Eastern European classic vegetarian borscht recipe originating from Ukraine. It uses beets, potatoes, and lentils. It's a wholesome soup for vegetarian diets and gentle on the budget. Serve it with sour cream and fresh dill.
Russian Cabbage Borscht
An elderly lady residing in Turkey served this Russian cabbage borscht to a friend of ours while he was in that country several years ago. She has since passed away, but her recipe lives on. It is the best Borscht recipe I've ever enjoyed. Serve topped with sour cream, extra dill weed, and chopped fresh tomatoes.
Fruit and Cream Pie II
A large pie with 2 types of fruit and a sour cream topping. Any combination of fruit fillings may be used in this pie. Apple, blueberry, peach or cherries all work well.
Gluten-Free Blueberry and Sweet Ricotta Crostata
Fresh, unsweetened blueberries and a sweet ricotta cream top a gluten-free shortbread crust for a delicious dessert or brunch treat. This shortbread recipe uses less sugar than traditional recipes as well as using dark brown sugar to give a deeper flavor.
Marry-Me Blueberry Pie
I had a man propose marriage to me after tasting this blueberry pie at a party. Yes, it's that good. The secret to this recipe is my grandmother's super-flaky pie crust. This marry-me blueberry pie recipe is best with fresh blueberries or dewberries.
Fresh Fruit Flan
This fruit flan recipe was given to me by a great cook and great friend. In some countries, such as the U.K. and Germany, flan is not a baked custard dessert but instead similar to a fruit tart, made with a cake-like crust, custard filling, and fresh fruit on top. This recipe is a riff on that style of flan, made with a cream cheese filling reminiscent of what we in the U.S. call a fruit pizza.
Bloody Mary Mix
My sister got this recipe from a restaurant in Ohio and all our family loves it. This is very spicy and needs time to blend flavors.
Dani's Butt Kickin' Bloody Mary Mix
When a crazy old lady hits you in the head with her purse...and she's carrying a Colt 45 in it...that's the kind of kick you want when you drink a bloody mary. I like it spicy, and I hope you do too. Add vodka and whatever garnishes you prefer. Allow to chill for at least 8 hours so that the evil inside can mature. Drink it down, enjoy the heat, and be nice to your grandma.
