  • 8 cups shredded red cabbage
  • 1 onion , chopped
  • 2 tarts apples , peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar , or to taste
  • 3 tablespoons distilled white vinegar , or to taste

Instructions

    Heat oil in a medium saucepan. Add cabbage and onion; cook until wilted. Stir in apples, water, salt, and black pepper; cover and simmer about 25 minutes.

    Stir in sugar and vinegar; taste for desired sweet and sour level. Cook 5 to 6 minutes more.
