Date Haroset
This date haroset recipe is more of a confection than the typical fruit and nut paste, and very different from the apple-based variety. It can be stored, refrigerated, in a closed container for one week.
Marinated Peppers
Red, green, and yellow peppers marinated in a mixture of herbs and oils. Serve with toasted Italian or French bread slices.
Passover Charoset
Simple, quick, and tasty charoset for Passover that doesn't use wine. The apple, walnuts, honey, and cinnamon go together very well. Chop the apples and walnuts depending on how coarse or fine you like the texture. Add less grape juice to start - that way, you can add more to taste.
Melenzana Ali Olio
This marinated eggplant in olive oil and seasonings is a delicious antipasto dish. Traditionally, we make melenzana ali olio in September to be served at Christmastime. Sometimes, Nonna slipped a couple of finely sliced sun-dried tomatoes (with dried basil) into the mix for a variation.
Mango Relish
The sweet flavors of this mango relish create a zesty accompaniment to fish or chicken. Try pairing the condiment with Thai, Indian, or Caribbean dishes, or serve with tortilla chips. Besides lifting your taste buds, the relish will add texture and color to your plate.
Charoset
A simple charoset recipe for the traditional Passover staple. I always make a great deal extra to munch on for days! The mixture will turn the appropriate shade of brown to look like the mortar that it represents.
Haroset for Passover
Haroset is a sweet and tasty condiment made with apples, cinnamon, honey, and sweet wine. It's delicious spread on matzah. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
Chunky Pear Butter with a Lemon Twist
Try this sweet, rich colored, butter-like spread made with ripe pears and a hint of lemon Liqueur. So easy to make and oh so good on toast or hot biscuits. If you prefer a lighter colored butter use white sugar in place of brown sugar.
Polish Potato Soup
What makes this Polish potato soup extraordinary is the addition of chopped dill pickle, pickle juice, and plenty of fresh dill. These ingredients, plus tangy sour cream, create a delicious, complex, comforting potato soup. I find it a comforting soup to eat, but the true comfort, the true relaxation comes from the process of making the soup.
Nectarine Jam
You don't see recipes for nectarine jam very often, which is a shame because ripe, juicy nectarines make a great jam.
Easy Onion Jam
This is an easy onion jam that is incredibly versatile. It enhances anything from rice or barley dishes to spreading on a piece of bread. Great accompaniment to chicken as well. You can substitute sherry vinegar for the balsamic vinegar.
Red Onion Marmalade
Serve this red onion marmalade alongside grilled steak or chicken, or offer it as an appetizer with crackers.
