Healthier Graham Cracker Crust
This excellent chocolaty crust is lower in fat than most. Cocoa powder and nonfat yogurt make it delicious without adding lots of excess calories.
Healthier Delicious Ham and Potato Soup
This ham and potato soup was great β so creamy! I added some carrots and green beans to it to give the dish a little more fiber and heartiness.
Black-Eyed Peas and Rice
This black-eyed peas and rice recipe with ham, bell peppers, and smoky paprika makes a hearty, flavorsome meal.
Frogmore Stew
This Frogmore stew can be adjusted to serve any number. I've used this recipe for over 20 years since I moved to South Carolina. Allow 2 tablespoons of seasoning per quart of water. If you cannot find hot smoked sausage, use another smoked sausage, such as kielbasa, and add crushed hot red pepper to the pot.
Navy Bean Soup
This hearty navy bean soup simmers tomatoes, veggies, beans and ham until tender and flavorsome. Perfect for warming you up on a cold night!
Caesar Potato Salad
We love this Caesar potato salad with bacon on a summer's day, but it's delicious any time of year.
Slow Cooker Green Beans, Ham and Potatoes
This crockpot green beans and potatoes recipe is easy to make in your slow cooker. I make this dish often, but I have never measured the ingredients, so this recipe is a reasonable approximation. Freeze the leftover cooking liquid and add it to bean soup, ham and cabbage dishes, or use it to boil dumplings. It's delicious!
Easy Homestyle Green Beans
Homestyle green beans like grandma used to make. Right out of a can, fool anyone even grandma.
Southern Fried Cabbage
Fried cabbage is a favorite at Mammaw's house! Bacon is fried until crispy, then sautΓ©ed with cabbage and onion in this simple, quick vegetable side dish. It's terrific with cornbread.
Canadian Yellow Split Pea Soup with Ham
Creamy yellow split pea soup studded with bits of ham, carrots, celery, and thyme. There is nothing like this soup on a cold day! I am a Canadian now living in the United States and cannot get Habitant soup anymore, so I came up with this version. I think it is as good as the real thing, if not better because it is homemade.
Slow Cooker Spicy Black-Eyed Peas
These slow cooker black-eyed peas are flavored with jalapeΓ±o pepper, cumin, ham, and bacon for a spicy side dish. Perfect for potluck dinners and barbecues!
Bavarian Sauerkraut
This sauerkraut recipe has to be the best-tasting sauerkraut I've ever had. Traditionally, my family serves pork and sauerkraut every New Year's Day for luck in the coming year. I love cabbage in general and like most sauerkraut recipes, but they can be pretty sour depending on how they're prepared. Sadly I don't remember who gave me this recipe and who deserves the credit since it was pulled from a collection of handwritten recipes I've kept for years. I made it as a side dish for New Year's Day dinner, and it was a complete hit! This is certainly not your typical sour sauerkraut recipe.
