Feta Cheese Burek (Phyllo Dough)
An Eastern European delicacy. Probably one of the most loved foods from the Balkans. There are two ways to create burek: with homemade dough or with phyllo dough (pre-made store-bought). In this recipe we will be using the pre-made phyllo dough. You can put potatoes, meat, spinach, boiled cabbage, or feta cheese inside! This one will be with feta cheese. Truly a tasty meal! And very easy to make! Eat with yogurt for authenticity.
Grandma's Hot Hominy
This is a great white, hot hominy recipe for a holiday side dish. Grandma always served this with Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. It goes well with turkey and dressing.
Jiffy Corn Casserole
This Jiffy corn casserole is delish and so different from a lot of other corn casseroles. My mother won an award many, many years ago with this recipe in the Arizona Republic newspaper. Everybody I know asks for this recipe so I am giving it to everyone!
Slow Cooker Funeral Potatoes
This delicious dish known as 'funeral potatoes' is easy to make. I topped mine with more cheese and sliced green onions. A great addition to this would be bacon bits, making it taste almost like a fully loaded baked potato.
Hash Brown Casserole for the Slow Cooker
A slow cooker makes the traditional hash brown casserole side dish even easier. Prep it ahead of time, then start cooking when you need to. This dish is also great for parties.
Slow Cooker Funeral Potatoes (Hash Brown Casserole)
Funeral potatoes have always been a food day favorite at my work but the topic came up and I discovered that my husband had never had it. I needed my oven for other things so I came up with this slow cooker version. I also chose to use potato chips over the traditional cornflake topping but either will work.
Ash-e-jow (Iranian/Persian Barley Soup)
I've seen a lot of recipes for Ash-e-jow (Iranian/Persian barley soup); however, my mother-in-law adds tomato paste for a bit of a different flavor and she doesn't add any lentils or beans. It's thick, filling, and delicious, and you could make it vegetarian by using vegetable stock.
Creamy Dill Dipping Sauce
This creamy dill sauce is tasty! Serve with vegetables for dipping.
Potato Casserole
This potato casserole is rich and cheesy with a crisp and buttery cornflake topping.
Porkolt (Hungarian Stew) Made With Pork
A flavorful stew, PΓΆrkΓΆlt is redolent with the fragrance of paprika and bell peppers. It has few ingredients, and is surprisingly easy to make. Save time by using boneless pork chops and cubing them after they are browned. There should be enough salt in the canned tomatoes to season the stew, but if not, add more to your taste. Use best-quality, real Hungarian paprika for best results. We prefer to serve it with noodles, but galuska (Hungarian dumplings) or rice are good, too.
Slovak Sauerkraut Christmas Soup
This Slovak sauerkraut soup with smoked ham, mildly spiced sausage, and sweet prunes is often served at Christmas. Everyone who tries it is amazed at how good it is.
German Zwiebelkuchen (Onion Pie)
Zwiebelkuchen is a delicious onion pie from south-central Germany. Fall is a very special time of year here, as local winemakers will open a BasinWirtschaft in their barn or garage. They serve new wine, fresh zwiebelkuchen, and perhaps some wurst, for a minimal fee!
