Eggnog (Spiked with Rum)
I was really never a fan of eggnog... until a friend gave me this proven recipe. It's simply the best! It's rich and creamy, just like melted vanilla ice cream. This makes almost a gallon and packs a punch... so drink responsibly.
Eggnog Hot Chocolate
This hot eggnog is a delightful way to liven up your hot chocolate. You can also use peppermint sticks as a garnish.
Early American Eggnog
Supposedly a recipe from George Washington, I have used this early American eggnog recipe for five annual New Year's parties. You must make it about 10 days in advance to mellow the flavors. It becomes so smooth. One year, one of my guests unknowingly served it to her 2-year-old! Use premium vanilla ice cream to keep it chilled in the punch bowl. I like to shape the ice cream in star molds and use them one at a time to chill the eggnog throughout the evening.
Eggnog from Scratch
It is relatively easy to toss a few quarts of eggnog and a bottle of rum into a punch bowl, but take the time to make some eggnog from scratch and you will be amazed at how great real eggnog can be. Garnish with freshly ground nutmeg.
Creme de Vie
A yummy drink that is perfect for the holidays. Egg yolks are blended with sugar syrup and evaporated milk, then flavored with rum and vanilla. One sip and you'll be hooked.
Homemade Limoncello
Ice-cold limoncello is a distinguished, refreshing drink and worth the extra time it takes to make.
Ambrosia Fruit Salad
This creamy ambrosia salad is easy, easy, easy! If you like maraschino cherries, you can use them; if not, remember there are maraschino cherries in your fruit cocktail. Also, a little juice from the maraschino cherries will color your fruit salad a festive red.
Almond Jelly
This is one of my favorite desserts that I get when I go to a Chinese restaurant. With this recipe, it is easy to make it in the comfort of your own home! Serve with some canned fruit cocktail with syrup or just some fresh fruit! It's such a refreshing dessert to enjoy and a very good change from plain gelatin.
Pear and Pomegranate Salad
This pear and pomegranate salad is a fall and winter favorite. I'm always eager for pomegranates to be in season so I can make this again. I make my own pomegranate juice by pressing the seeds against a metal sieve.
Christmas Pasta Salad
The orzo in this salad is reminiscent of pine needles and when dressed in pesto brings a lovely green hue. Perlini mozzarella balls become ornaments, as do cherry tomatoes and ribbons of basil and pepperoni. I do not add salt as I find the pepperoni and pesto to be ample enough. Additional toppings to consider are slivers of red onion, black olives, and diced green bell pepper. I don't like balsamic vinegar, thus the lemon juice.
Festive Fall Turkey Salad
I created this recipe to use leftover holiday turkey. It's a classic bound salad using mayonnaise and celery, but it also includes fresh cranberries, orange juice and cashews. Although new to our menu, it has become a holiday favorite. My family requests I make my own turkey before Thanksgiving so I can serve this salad as an appetizer at our holiday feast. I hope you will find it as enjoyable as we do. Enjoy it on rolls, in wraps, or as a spread with crackers.
Swedish Tea Ring
This is a hand-shaped, filled yeast bread that my 2-year-old daughter loves to help prepare. The dough can be made ahead and refrigerated, then baked in the morning. Sprinkle chopped, toasted almonds over the ring if you wish. Nuts can also be added to the filling along with the raisins.
