Burek
This burek recipe is Eastern European in origin. My mom is from Bosnia and made this for me while I was growing up โ my whole family always looked forward to it. Serve with Balkan-style yogurt for authenticity.
Pasties
Pasties are traditional meat pies hailing from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! These are made with rutabaga so they're the real deal. Rub pasties with a little milk before baking if you want them to have a golden color.
Loose Meat on a Bun, Restaurant Style
This is how they make loose meat sandwiches in the restaurants. They are always moist and savory.
Corned Beef Special Sandwiches
I think of this corned beef sandwich recipe as a cousin to the Reuben. It's a cold sandwich of corned beef topped with Russian dressing and coleslaw on Jewish rye. Yum!
Beef on Weck
A beef on weck sandwich is an easy roast beef sandwich with local origins in Buffalo, New York. Kimmelweck rolls are hard kaiser-type rolls covered in coarse ground salt and caraway seeds.
Cabbage Burgers
This is a recipe created by Russian German immigrants. It is very popular in the Nebraska, South Dakota region where I am from. Cabbage and ground beef are encased in a neat little bread package.
Grandma's Meatloaf with Oats
Grandma's meatloaf recipe was the best I have ever tried to make. My previous attempts to create a healthy, yet good tasting meatloaf recipe failed repeatedly because each attempt resulted in a dry loaf. Not so with Grandma's recipe! I added more seasonings and scaled her recipe up a bit so 2 full pounds of beef can be used and a whole can of tomato sauce (instead of a partial can). Plus beef is usually sold in 1-pound packages, so assembly time is reduced.
Slow Cooker Italian Beef
This Italian beef is perfect for sandwiches. It's easy to make in a slow cooker and tastes just like my all-time favorite sandwich that I used to get at a local restaurant when I lived in a suburb of Chicago. Serve on crusty rolls with roasted sweet or hot peppers.
Meatloaf Muffins
Easy to make meatloaf in individually sized muffins.
Mushroom Meatloaf
This mushroom meatloaf is extremely juicy, and the mushrooms give it an interesting flavor!
Cabbage Roll Casserole
My cabbage roll casserole has all the ingredients of stuffed cabbage rolls but is a lot easier to make! This basic recipe will appeal to everyone but if you prefer more flavor, consider adding crushed garlic, paprika, thyme, or cayenne pepper.
Unstuffed Cabbage Roll
This is an easy casserole made with ground beef, cabbage, garlic, and tomatoes. My kids don't even like cabbage, but they love this dish! Serve with rice for a comforting weeknight dinner. Also, the longer it stands the better it tastes!
