Grilled Butternut Squash
Grilling butternut squash in slices creates a crispy shell and seals in all the flavor. You don't even need butter or salt and pepper โ great on its own, in salads, or as a side.
Stir-Fried Mushrooms with Baby Corn
Stir-fried mushrooms with baby corn is a Thai vegetable side dish with plenty of Chinese influences. Utilize whatever mushrooms are in season, such as straw, button, het khone (termite), or shiitake mushrooms.
Mediterranean Kale
Steamed kale is tossed in a bright and lemony dressing in this easy side dish. Delicious!
Savory Roasted Root Vegetables
This roasted vegetable side dish is a great way to use root vegetables. I think the beets add a beautiful red color to the dish, but if it bothers you to serve pinkish vegetables, substitute parsnips, rutabaga, or any similar vegetable; be creative!
Puerto Rican Tostones (Fried Plantains)
Tostones are crispy fried green plantains. Serve as a side dish with your meal or as an appetizer.
Frozen Vegetable Stir-Fry
This stir fry with frozen veggies makes a very quick and tasty vegetable side dish that's ready to serve in 10 minutes. Soy sauce and peanut butter add a nice Thai-style flavor.
Simple Baked Apples
These simple baked apples are a family standard. We have them at least once a week during the winter. The spices, nuts and raisins can be interchanged or omitted depending upon your tastes. This recipe also serves as a great breakfast, side dish, or dessert.
Holiday Spiced Cranberry Relish
Cranberries and spices and fruit, what more is there? This is a wonderful side dish on any occasion. Serve chilled in chutney jar.
Festive Holiday Cranberry Relish
This festive side dish has been in our family for generations. It goes exceptionally well with ham or turkey. A great recipe for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.
Fresh Cranberry-Orange Sauce
Cranberry sauce is a must-have, classic holiday side dish. Sweet orange and pear are perfect partners to the tart cranberries. The orange marmalade intensifies the citrus flavor, the vanilla adds a subtle aroma, and the star anise will have people asking "what is that?"
Drunken Cranberry Sauce
A family recipe we have used for years. We love it as a side dish to our turkey on Thanksgiving day. Also goes well on chicken, pork, and beef. Makes a great treat as an appetizer served with crackers, or can even be used over vanilla ice cream. I like to add the orange zest a couple tablespoons at a time, as not to overdo it. Adjust sweetness by adding 1 tablespoon sugar at a time at the end of cooking if needed.
Copycat Shack Sauce
The Shake Shack's sauce is really the secret to their legendary burgers. It's creamy, tangy, sweet, and a bit spicy. Make enough that you can keep some extra in the fridge for dipping fries, onion rings, or veggies.
